Properly processed, good-quality softwood lumber is nearly impossible to find. The main reason is the difficulty of processing this wood at such low moisture levels. If you are planning to build furniture, cabinets or any other woodworking project that requires precise measurements and joinery the moisture content in the wood is absolutely critical. Because it is so hard to process really dry softwoods in any kind of volume, we don’t know of anyone else who wants to do it.

All our moldings are run from stock hand-selected for serviceability and appearance. All are a stain-grade quality which is only possible because of RBM’s diversity and the wide range of products we manufacture. In softwood moldings it is doubtful you will find the level of quality and variety that RBM can offer at a price so affordable. The following are some of the reasons we can make this claim:
Wood Molding Species:
Fir and Larch, Pine, Cedar, White Fir, Aspen
Wood Molding Grades:
Vertical grain, select, #2, Blue Stained, Red Stained
Wood Molding Profiles:
Our most common molding package is what we call a Craftsman style which is flat-faced with eased edges and a back let. Typically it has a ¾” thick head, a 5/8”thick casing or leg and a ½”thick base. This way the head is proud of the leg which is proud of the base. Depending on the project, these dimensions can be altered. This particular package can also be textured with wire brush, circle saw, band saw and a combination of textures.
We also have a fluted casing, a colonial casing, a clamshell casing and others in stock as well as various base profiles.
Wood Molding Dimensions:
Stock widths for base are 2 ¼”, 3 ¼”, and 5 ¼”.
Stock widths for casings are 2 ¼” and 3 ¼”.
Stock for S4S comes in 3 1/4 “, 5 1/4″, 7 1/4″. Wider widths are S2S (surfaced 2 sides). We stock 10″ and 12″ and a few pieces of 14″ and 16″.
Wood Crown Molding:
We stock two basic crown profiles with 3 or 4 widths in each profile.

We call it molding “stock” because it is the same wood we run our moldings from. First, all of this product line is dried to 6% moisture. Then we re-grade the rough stock according to knot and grain quality and any other characteristics that would affect the workability of the piece. Before we plane it we surface the face with a sander to avoid grain tear and knot chips. After it is surfaced we re-sand it. Then it is re-graded with a tighter grading standard than would typically be applied to each grade. We do not represent our moldings or molding stock as stain ready.
